My Go-To Recipe Books
I love using recipe books. Whether I follow them exactly or use them for inspiration. My boyfriend and I have also been really good lately at planning our meals (especially during lockdown). So, I thought I would share some of our most used recipe books and our favourite recipes from each. I currently don’t really have any photos of the actual food that we’ve made as I’m typically too excited about eating the food to remember. But I will try and add photos for these recipes the next time that we make them. Hopefully you can take some inspiration from this post and create some delicious meals yourself. If you do, be sure to share them with me on Instagram. Use the hashtag #coffeewithcerys and you may see your post in my monthly newsletter (coming soon) or on my Instagram stories.
I was planning on putting a * for my favourite recipes…however I pretty much love them all…so I just recommend everything.
Two Chubby Cubs – The Cookbook by
I’ve followed the Two Chubby Cubs blog for a while and love the food that they make. James and Paul started their blog to talk about Slimming World and share some of their recipes. And they now have their own cookbook too. They’re super funny and have some amazing recipes and I love that each recipe has a little story to it. So far, we have tried and enjoyed:
* Roasted Rainbow Carbonara
* Ham & Pineapple Pasta Bake (if you love a Hawaiian pizza, this is for you)
* One-Pot Creamy Leek & Sausage Bake (obsessed)
* Lamb & Halloumi Meatballs (these are now one of my most favourite things)
* Date-Wrecking Garlic Beef
* Mongolian Beef
* Cheesy Chubby Fishcakes (I think I’d maybe use a different cheese next time)
* Lemon Cod with Fishcakes
* Cheesy Meaty Parcels
Feed Me Vegan by Lucy Watson
Vegan food has a bit of a bad rep of being bland and boring. But Lucy’s book shows why it doesn’t have to be. And her Sweet Potato and Kale Curry is now one of my favourite curries ever (and I love a curry). So, besides that curry, I’ve also tried and enjoyed:
* Roasted Red Pepper & Tomato Soup
* Spinach & Pesto Pasta
Pinch of Nom by Kate Allinson & Kay Featherstone
Joint with Chubby Cubs, this is probably my favourite cookbook. The colours and style of it are beautiful and the recipes all sound delicious. Some recipes that I have tried and enjoyed from this recipe book are:
* Veggie Burgers
* Pizza-Stuffed Chicken
* Hunter’s Chicken (one of my favourite things to eat when I go to a pub)
* Bacon, Onion & Potato Bake
* Chicken, Ham & Leek Pie
The Ultimate Student Cookbook by Student Beans
Although I’ve only actually listed one dish, this cookbook is filled with classic recipes. My boyfriend already knows how to cook many of these recipes and has taught me too. But if you’re looking to learn how to cook some classic dishes, then you might enjoy this book too. It’s also not written in a patronising manner like I find most student cookbooks are written in. So, the recipe that I have tried from this cookbook is:
* Butternut Squash & Goat’s Cheese Risotto (and it was amazing)
5 Ingredients by Jamie Oliver
I think a lot of people know who Jamie Oliver is and that he has a range of cooking shows and recipe books. I have two of them. One of them is his book that makes meals using only 5 ingredients. This is definitely a great option while we’re in isolation as you don’t have to worry about needing too many ingredients. Some of my favourite recipes from this book are:
* Hoisin Chicken Lettuce Cups
* Gnarly Peanut Chicken
* Cajun Sweet Potatoes
* Sticky Pork Stir-Fry
* Pork & Mash Gratin (simple, but absolutely delicious)
Veg – Jamie Oliver
The other Jamie Oliver recipe book that I have is his book all about vegetarian food. This is another recipe book filled with delicious looking and sounding food. Some of these recipes include:
* Allotment Cottage Pie
* Spiced Parsnip Soup
* Greens Mac ‘N’ Cheese (made this a lot and love it – even though I’m not the biggest fan of broccoli)
* Brilliant Bhaji Burger
I hope you find this post interesting and it gives you some inspiration on some delicious food that you can cook. I will also continue to update it with photos of the food and more recipes that I try.
I hope that you’re all okay! Don’t forget to follow my socials and tag me in your amazing recipes.
