Baby's First Hangover
Edited April 2020
So yesterday, I experienced my first ever hangover…
Now I understand why everyone would say that they were so jealous of the fact that I never used to get them – no matter how much alcohol I had consumed!
Thankfully, I was able to sleep for most of the day. But it didn’t help with the sickness every time that I woke up. However, I ordered food from Caribou Poutine where I had the aptly named “Hangover Poutine”. This included hand cut fries, cheese curds, their homemade signature gravy, sausages, streaky bacon and a fried egg on top. I also added mozzarella because cheese. If you’ve never had poutine before, I highly recommend! Since moving to Liverpool, it’s become one of my favourite foods.
Now, back to alcohol. I’ve never had a bad relationship with alcohol. When I was younger, my Mam would make me squash and lemonade at family events, so I felt all grown up around everyone else drinking alcohol. Then I started drinking Shloer, which was a sparkling grape juice drink. I felt so cool and grown-up having my own bottle all to myself. Or sometimes split between my younger brother and me. When I get older, I started drinking Rosé with lemonade.
I think the first time that I properly drunk alcohol would have been when I started going to house parties with my friends for birthdays and other celebrations. I don’t have the best memory though, but I think it was around this time.
Therefore, by the time I got to the legal drinking age, I wasn’t particularly bothered by going wild and getting completely hammered all the time. I’m not saying that I’ve never been completely black out drunk, because I most definitely have! I just don’t need to be smashed to have fun.
Although, after experiencing my first hangover, it has now potentially given me a gauge of what my limits are when it comes to alcohol consumption. But, in my defence, I wasn’t buying my drinks on my most recent night out. So, I didn’t keep tabs on how much I was drinking…
But as someone who can typically handle her drink and because I don’t actually know how much I drunk that night…I’m not sure how much of a gauge I actually have.
As the photos used throughout this post show, drunk Cerys often ends up in two ways; either super happy and loving or crying and annoyed with everyone.
But so far, I’m yet to dislike a night out that I’ve been on. Whether I drink loads or stay sober all night. Spending time with friends and having a laugh is what I love doing, so any chance I get, I’ll do it.
Everyone please stay safe and drink responsibly. And don’t forget to follow me on my social media - linked below.
