Autumn/Winter Style Inspirations - September 2018
Edited April 2020
This was originally posted on my shared blog back in September 2018. But I have moved it onto here so I can look back at my evolving style and inspirations. Therefore, it has been updated slightly for context to this blog.
I started my third year of uni today, and so in lieu of actually preparing for my most daunting year in education I decided to sit and talk about what has been inspiring me for the Autumn and Winter seasons. Mainly because I can’t stay off of Instagram long enough to actually think about my coursework, but also because I really don’t want to.
Okay so, when it comes to Autumn/Winter I usually find it easier to dress as you can just add layers such as scarfs and coats and still have a cute outfit. However, I’m not feeling that inspired currently when it comes to fashion. So therefore, my section of this post will mainly consist of food that I want to try/make and home decor for my dream home that I’ve been planning since I was about 8.
Although keep an eye on my Instagram as hopefully I’ll start remembering to post more outfit photos.
Zoe Sugg - Hair
It was decided months ago that after I was done being red and I would dye my hair ginger (mainly for a potential Halloween costume). And although I have just bought the dye to do it, I am very much looking forward to going back brunette in a few months. Seeing Zoe dye hers to this gorgeous brunette colour has also made me more certain about being my natural colour again.
I know that this photo of Zoe is quite old, but it’s the photo that made me certain that I wanted to go back brunette. I’ve been loving having my hair shorter and brown - it makes me feel more like me.
Cosy Nights In
Autumn/Winter is the perfect time to cosy up with a good book, Netflix, a hot chocolate and your person/pet of choice and just relax. Personally, I love being cwtched up with a massive mug of hot chocolate (with lots of squirty cream and marshmallows) and watching something on Netflix (see previous post). It helps me to gather my thoughts and warm up on a cold day.
Now, if I could just find someone with a massive balcony that would let me decorate it like the above Instagram post that would be amazing!
All The Food
For me, colder weather = stodgy, comforting food. This means roast dinners, dumplings, soups, curries and my absolute favourite…Christmas Dinner. I love Christmas full stop. But also, my favourite meal is probably Christmas dinner. It warms you up and fills you up and just tastes great. And for me, that’s what Autumn/Winter is about; filling you up and making you feel all warm and cosy.
Above is one of my new favourite Instagram accounts. Emily shares amazing breakfast food ideas and I’ve even tried some of the recipes and they were delicious!! I can’t wait to try more.
Comfy Lingerie
As everyone who lives with me knows, I love just wandering around in my underwear – occasionally throwing on an oversized t-shirt or a pair of joggers if I can be bothered. However, when it comes to Autumn/Winter, I’d much rather wear soft, comfy underwear over anything “too pretty”. Which is why I love the look of the brand Lounge Underwear. Although I am yet to own anything from them, I am trying to save up to get a few things. I will be sure to give my review if/when I make my purchase.
Makeup
When it comes to Autumn/Winter a purple lip is always my go to. It’s vampy, dark and I always get compliments when I wear it. Here I am wearing KVD Vegan Beauty’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the colour ‘Exorcism’ (available here - it’s currently out of stock, but I’m sure it’ll be back soon). These lipsticks are absolutely amazing!! I currently have it in five different shades but am planning on purchasing more. Basically, I usually go from a happy, girl-next-door vibe in Spring/Summer to a grungy and dark vibe in Autumn/Winter and I love it.
An Actual Outfit
I thought that I should try and include one outfit that I like. I love this jumper, jeans and boots combo and it will probably be my main go-to style for the upcoming months. It’s quick and easy to throw on before uni, yet still looks like you’ve made an effort. You could even throw on a scarf for extra warmth. It’s super cosy and great if you want to nap in between lectures (or during…I won’t judge).
And that’s it. That’s my September 2018 Autumn/Winter inspiration. Don’t forget to follow my socials for a range of updates.
