My Love For Whittard’s Hot Chocolate

If you love hot chocolate, but haven’t heard of Whittard’s, then this is the post for you!

Whittard Chelsea has quite an interesting history (which you can read about here). But in summary it was created in 1886 by Walter Whittard where he would sell coffee and tea related products. Since then, they have increased their stock and now offer a range of products. This includes; tea, coffee, hot chocolate, tableware and barista equipment.

To add, this isn’t the cheapest brand, but it does make a lovely treat and would make great gifts (they also do their own gift sets).

My boyfriend and I tend to treat ourselves at Christmas to some of the Whittard’s hot chocolate when we take our annual trip to Cheshire Oaks. However, we decided to treat ourselves at the beginning of lockdown and try out a few other bits.

Whittard’s can be purchased from their own shops & websites, in some John Lewis’ and on Amazon. Let me know if you know of anywhere else that sells their products. For ease, I will be giving links from their website.

So, let’s talk about the products that I’ve tested. I’m not going to go into complete detail about every single product that I’ve tried otherwise we’d be here all day😂

Hot Chocolate

I’m starting with hot chocolate because this is how I was first introduced to the brand. The Whittard’s white hot chocolate was one of my Uncle’s favourites and after tasting it, I was hooked. So, the hot chocolate flavours that I have tried are; White, Mumbai Spice, Peanut Butter, Banoffee Pie, Crème Brûlée, Sticky Toffee Pudding and Coconut.

Of the ones that I’ve tried, Banoffee Pie and White-Hot Chocolate are my all-time favourites. My boyfriend’s favourite is Mumbai Spice.

Banoffee Pie

I love anything sweet, but especially things life toffee/caramel, and this hot chocolate is just that. Plus, banoffee pie is one of my favourite desserts. The website describes it as “sumptuously sweet, flavours of creamy banana and molten toffee”. This is definitely a great way to describe this gorgeous hot chocolate.

White Hot Chocolate

As mentioned, this was the first product that I ever tried from the Whittard brand. It tastes exactly like you’ve just melted a Milkybar and are now drinking it. If you know me, you know that white chocolate is probably my favourite chocolate (although I am just a massive chocolate lover in general). The packaging describes it as “white magic, deliciously creamy, as soft as velvet”. This may even be one of my favourite drinks ever!

Mumbai Spice

Since Mumbai Spice is my boyfriend’s favourite flavour, I decided to ask him to write a little something about it. So, here is what he said.

“When we first saw this in Whittard’s, we thought it looked amazing. But we were a little apprehensive about it - unsure whether it would taste good. But let me assure you it tastes beautiful. It is everything you want from a hot chocolate, soothing, slightly sweet and has a gentle hint of cinnamon, among other spices. A favourite of ours, we go through a few tubs a year”.

Typically, this isn’t in stock right now and we’re both so sad! But keep an eye out and hopefully they’ll bring it back🤞🏻

One thing that I have also been using these hot chocolate powders for is making ‘iced chocolates’. It’s basically a cold version of a hot chocolate, in the way that an iced latte is a cold coffee - if that makes sense? I’s been great for warm evenings where I want something comforting, but don’t want anything hot. If you’ve not tried an iced chocolate before, and you like the taste of hot chocolate and enjoy an iced latte, I’d definitely recommend. It’s now one of my favourite drinks🧡

Tea

Whittard do a few varieties of tea. So far, I have tried three of the Instant Teas and one of the Tea Bags.

Instant Tea

Instant tea may not be for everyone, but I have tried a few of their flavours. So far, I have tried; Christmas Chai, Mulled Wine and Pink Lemonade. Click here for the instant teas.

These aren’t anything like your regular tea, so please don’t expect it to be. I haven’t actually fully made my decision on these though. I think that’s maybe because it feels weird because its not “proper tea”. And naturally as a Brit, I love my tea! However, while writing this post I am drinking the Pink Lemonade flavour of this tea and it is pretty tasty!

Tea Bags

I’m a big fan of green tea! I find that it makes my mind feel calm, but also my body. I’m not sure how much it actually does for you, but my body always feels better after drinking it. I decided to go with the Mango & Bergamot flavour as I love mango. And it’s so delicious. Even though I do enjoy a regular green tea – a green tea with extra added flavour is even better in my opinion😂

Coffee

While I was in uni I decided to get myself a cafetière so I could try all of the delicious sounding coffee from TKMaxx. This also meant that I could try one of the Whittard’s Ground Coffee.

As someone who loves coffee, I love trying various flavours, types, combinations, sweeteners etc. So, I couldn’t wait to try this.

I decided to go for the chocolate truffle flavour. Typically, this is now out of stock, but they have loads of other flavours and types that sound delicious. The flavour is almost mocha like with the coffee and chocolate and so far, I’ve been really enjoying it. I always feel like having coffee in this way is a treat, so I tend to have it if I’m having a slow, cosy weekend morning. Click here to browse their other pre-ground coffee.

Biscuits

Okay so these are definitely a treat! They’re definitely not the cheapest. But my boyfriend and I decided to proper treat ourselves at the beginning of lockdown. I found a similar cookie on the Waitrose website for a lot cheaper (Waitrose? Who am I?😂).

But I have to say that these are the most delicious biscuits I have ever tasted!! They’re described as “a crisp, tangy biscuit dotted with chocolate chips and smooth flavours of orange”. That does sum up what the flavours are, but I don’t think there’s enough description words to describe how delicious I think they are. Sadly, they’re currently out of stock (hopefully they’ll come back in soon). Thankfully, they do offer some other flavours too.

I know that Whittard’s isn’t the cheapest brand and doesn’t really reflect my usual shopping habits as I love a bargain. But they do make an amazing treat and a very lovely gift for a hot drink lover!

Plus, I know that I’ve already got several friends to buy some of the hot chocolates. So, Whittard I’d be more than happy to work with you…please😂🧡

Have you tried anything from this brand? If so, what’s your favourite product? If not, what are some of your favourite places to purchase hot drinks from? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
